for SCAL users: ann’s tiny gift box

This stuff is addicting.

I had a midnight stroke of creativity the other night and before I knew it, it was 3:00 a.m. and I had been designing for hours. This particular project took a lot of tweaking.  Here is the result.

Tiny gift box AThe box is approximately 2 inches square, and 1 inch in height.  It closes with a small tab that inserts in a slot.  Surprisingly, the slot was much easier to do than I thought it would be.

There is a hidden feature of this particular box, and here it is:

Tiny gift box BI have a font called 7 dingbats slats LT.  I played around with the various elements of this font, and decided to use the heart on the inner top panel.  You can download the font here:

If you use this font (available free on the web), you probably want to cut this box with heavy card stock.  I used American Crafts Specialty Foil card stock, and it cut beautifully on my Cricut with a regular blade.  You probably want to use a sharp blade so the little slots don’t tear.

Here’s the best part.  It takes two small pieces of tape to hold the entire box together.  I designed it with long tabs so they would overlap each other and form a strong wall for the box.  You don’t need to glue or tape the rest of the box to the middle part – it will stand up by itself as long as your card stock is stiff.  Here is what it looks like fully open.

TIny gift box CSorry about the poor photos – I was in a hurry to get this posted for the people who have asked for another SCAL box.

You can cut this box in one piece from a 6″ by 12″ piece of card stock.  So, you could make two boxes from one 12″ by 12″ sheet ad still have small pieces of paper left over to use for other projects.

What would you put in this box?  Well, my choice would be four small pieces of Belgian chocolate.

This box could also hold a small bracelet, a pin, a pendant….you get the idea.

I thought I would make different versions of this box for different holidays.  I can see this box holding a favor for a family celebration at each place setting.  What do you think?

So, I think I’ll try a Christmas version next.  Perhaps a jingle bell on the inside top, or a snowflake.

Here is the cut file in SCAL 1:
